Why Am I Warned When I Leave or Sign Out?
ABM Service keeps unsaved changes only in the browser tab you are working in, so the few things that would end that tab ask you first. Your browser asks before you close, refresh or leave the tab, and Sign out in the menu asks before it signs you out. Both appear only when something really is unsaved.
Why does my browser ask if I want to leave the page?
Your browser asks before the tab closes or reloads whenever anything in that tab has unsaved changes, including a call, a customer, a contact or a Quick call card you left earlier and that is now shown only by its reminder in the bottom-left corner. Unsaved changes live in the tab until you save them, so closing or reloading the tab is the one thing that would lose them.
The question appears when you:
- close the tab or the browser window;
- refresh the page, for example by pressing F5;
- type another address into the address bar, or follow a link to another website;
- select a button in ABM Service that reloads the page, such as Try again on the database notice, or Reload the page on an error page while the unsaved reminders are still showing in the bottom-left corner.
The question is your browser's own, in its own words, and ABM Service cannot change them. Choose to stay (the button is usually Cancel or Stay) to keep your changes, then go back to them with the reminder and save. Choose to leave only if you are happy to lose them.
Moving between screens inside ABM Service never brings up this question: going to another screen keeps your changes, so there is nothing to warn about.
Why didn't my browser warn me when I closed the tab?
The browser asks only when something in that tab holds changes you have not saved. A call screen you only read, a new call you opened and did not type into, a Quick call slot you marked out but left empty, and anything you have already saved or discarded hold nothing, so the tab closes without a question. That way the warning, when it does appear, always means something.
Changes are kept per tab. If you typed in one tab and closed a different one, the tab you closed had nothing unsaved in it.
In the ABM Service desktop app, closing a window does not ask about unsaved changes, so save your call or customer before you close its window. Moving between screens inside one desktop window keeps your changes, just as it does in a browser tab.
Why does Sign out ask me about unsaved changes?
When you select Sign out in the menu while anything in this tab is unsaved, ABM Service asks before signing you out, because signing out leaves the page and your unsaved changes with it. The message says Unsaved changes on one screen will be lost., or gives the number of screens when there are several.
Keep working cancels the sign-out so you can go back to your changes and save them; Sign out anyway throws them away and signs you out, and your browser does not ask a second time. How to Sign Out of ABM Service explains both buttons, and why the ABM Service desktop app has no Sign out.
What does "you are still signed in" mean after I sign out?
Signing out did not reach the server, so you are still signed in. Try again. under Sign out in the menu means your sign-out did not happen, and you are still signed in on this computer. Check your connection and select Sign out again, and on a shared computer do not walk away until you see the sign-in page. How to Sign Out of ABM Service says what to do if it keeps failing.
What happens if my sign-in runs out while I am working?
If your sign-in ends, for example because it has expired, the next thing ABM Service asks the server for sends you to the sign-in page, and after you sign in you return to the page you were on. If you had unsaved changes, your browser asks before leaving the page, as it does when you close the tab. Staying keeps your screen for the moment, but the next thing that needs the server sends you to the sign-in page again, and a save cannot go through until you have signed in.
