How to Sign Out of ABM Service

Signing out ends your sign-in on the browser you are using, so the next person at that computer cannot use ABM Service as you. Sign out is in the menu, on the row under your name at the bottom. After you sign out, the browser shows the ABM Service sign-in page.

How do I sign out of ABM Service?

To sign out, open the menu and select Sign out, which is under your name and company at the bottom of the menu. ABM Service ends your sign-in and shows the sign-in page, ready for the next person.

  1. Open the menu: select Menu at the top of the Home screen, or Navigation menu at the top of the filter rail on the Calls, Customers and Scheduler screens.
  2. Select Sign out on the row under your name at the bottom of the menu. The button reads Signing out… while ABM Service ends your sign-in.
  3. Check that the sign-in page appears. You are now signed out on this browser.

If you have unsaved changes on any screen, ABM Service asks about them before signing you out; nothing is signed out until you answer.

The call screen and the customer screen have no menu of their own. Go back to a list screen first with the back arrow at the top left (Back to calls or Back to customers), and open the menu there. If there is no back arrow, because you opened the call or customer straight from a link, a bookmark or a new tab, open your company's ABM Service web address instead: you are still signed in, so it opens on the Home screen, and Menu is at the top.

In the ABM Service desktop app there is no Sign out, because the desktop app works as the ABM user it was opened for: the one who signed in to its own sign-in window, or, when it was opened from a button on the ABM toolbar, the user ABM says you are. To finish there, close the window with Exit on the title bar's File menu, or right-click the tray icon with your company's initials beside the Windows clock and choose Exit to close every window of that company at once.

Signing out affects only the browser you are using. If you are signed in on another computer or in another browser, you stay signed in there until you sign out there too. It also affects only the company whose ABM Service you are in; if you are signed in to another company's ABM Service address, that one is not signed out.

Tip: On a shared computer, always sign out when you finish. Otherwise ABM Service keeps you signed in on that browser for thirty days after you last used it.

What happens to unsaved changes when I sign out?

If you have changes you have not saved on any screen, for example a call you edited and then left with Back to calls without saving, selecting Sign out in the menu does not sign you out straight away. The menu first says Unsaved changes on one screen will be lost., or names how many screens, with two buttons:

  • Keep working leaves you signed in with your changes as they were. Go back to the screen and save them, then sign out.
  • Sign out anyway signs you out and throws the unsaved changes away. They cannot be recovered.

ABM Service asks this before it does anything, so choosing Keep working changes nothing at all: your sign-in and your changes are both still there.

Once you choose Sign out anyway, your browser does not ask a second time about leaving the page; the question in the menu was the only one.

The question counts the screens open in the browser tab you are signing out from. Signing out also ends your sign-in for every other ABM Service tab in that browser, so save anything you have open in other tabs before you sign out.

Warning: Sign out anyway loses every unsaved change on every screen you have open in that tab. If you are not sure what is unsaved, choose Keep working and check each screen first.

Changes you have already saved are never affected by signing out.

What does "Signing out did not reach the server" mean?

Signing out did not reach the server, so you are still signed in. Try again. appears in the menu when ABM Service could not contact your company's server to end your sign-in, for example because the network dropped for a moment. It means exactly what it says: you are still signed in on this browser, and anyone using it can still use ABM Service as you.

Select Sign out again. When it works, the sign-in page appears; until you see the sign-in page, assume you are still signed in.

If signing out keeps failing and you are on a shared computer, close every browser window before you leave, and tell whoever looks after ABM Service at your company that signing out is not working. Closing the browser does not sign you out by itself, so a colleague who opens ABM Service in the same browser could still be signed in as you; report it rather than leave it.

ABM Service never shows the sign-in page after a failed sign-out, so the sign-in page appearing is a reliable sign that you really are signed out.

Why is there no Sign out in my menu?

Sign out only appears in the menu when you signed in to ABM Service in a browser. There are two common reasons for not seeing it:

  • You are using the ABM Service desktop app. The desktop app works as the ABM user who signed in to its own sign-in window, or whom ABM names when it is opened from the ABM toolbar, never through the browser sign-in page, so its menu has no Sign out and no Authenticator entry. To close the desktop app, use Exit on its File menu for one window, or Exit on the tray icon with your company's initials beside the Windows clock for all of that company's windows.
  • Your name has not appeared yet. The bottom of the menu shows your name, your company and Sign out once ABM Service has loaded who you are, and they appear by themselves as soon as it has. If that part of the menu stays empty, go to another screen or reload the page, and ABM Service asks again.

Neither of these is a fault. In the browser, once your name appears at the bottom of the menu, Sign out is always on the row beneath it.

Why was I signed out when I did not sign out?

ABM Service signs you out by itself in two situations, and in both the next screen you move to shows the sign-in page instead. Sign in again and ABM Service brings you back to the screen you were on.

  • You have not used ABM Service in that browser for thirty days. Every use starts the thirty days again, so this only happens to a browser you have left alone.
  • ABM Service was restarted on your company's server, for example while it was being updated. A restart signs everybody out at once, on every computer.

Your browser can also end your sign-in on its own side: clearing the browser's saved data for the site, or closing a private window, forgets that you were signed in to ABM Service.

If you had unsaved changes when this happened, your browser may ask whether you want to leave the page before the sign-in page appears.

Signing out on another computer, or in another browser, never signs you out here.
