How to Connect Your Own ChatGPT or Claude to ABM Service
If your company lets people connect AI assistants, you can connect your own ChatGPT or Claude to ABM Service and ask it things in your own words, such as which calls are due today or who the contact is at a customer. You add your company's ABM Service address to the assistant as a connector, sign in to ABM Service when it asks, and select Allow on the page that follows. From then on the assistant works in ABM Service as you.
How do I connect ChatGPT or Claude to ABM Service?
To connect your assistant, add your company's ABM Service address for assistants to it as a connector, sign in to ABM Service in the window it opens, and select Allow on the Connect an assistant page. You find the address on the Your account page: open the menu, select Your account under your name, and read it under Connected assistants.
- Open the menu in ABM Service in your web browser and select Your account under your name.
- Copy the address under Connected assistants. When you have none connected, the sentence there reads None. Your company lets people connect their own ChatGPT or Claude: in the assistant, add the address as a connector and sign in when it asks. The address ends in /mcp.
- Add the address as a connector in your assistant's own settings. Where that is, and what the assistant calls it, is the assistant's own business; its help explains it.
- Sign in to ABM Service in the browser window the assistant opens, with your name, your ABM password and your authenticator code if you use one. If you are already signed in in that browser, the sign-in is skipped, unless you signed in more than ten minutes ago, in which case ABM Service asks you to sign in again first.
- Check the Connect an assistant page that appears: the assistant's name, your name and your company.
- Leave Make changes in ABM ticked if you want the assistant to log and change calls, or clear it to let it read only.
- Select Allow. The button reads Allowing…, then the page says Going back… and returns you to the assistant, which is now connected.
The new connection appears under Connected assistants on your Your account page straight away. Connecting the same assistant again later replaces the connection it had, holding whatever you allowed the second time.
The address is only shown on the Your account page while you have no assistant connected. To connect a second assistant, use the same address you used for the first, or ask your system administrator, who can see it on the AI assistants screen.
You connect in a web browser, even if you normally use the ABM Service desktop app. The desktop app has no Your account page, so check and disconnect your assistants in a browser too.
What am I agreeing to on the Connect an assistant page?
The Connect an assistant page, which opens after you sign in, says exactly who is asking and what it will be able to do, and nothing is connected until you select Allow.
- Who is asking: the assistant's name in a box at the top, with the website it will send you back to, such as chatgpt.com or claude.ai, or a program on this computer.
- As whom: a sentence such as Claude is asking to use ABM Service as your name at your company. The assistant will work in ABM Service as you, at that company only.
- It will be able to: Read calls, customers and engineers, with What you can see on your own screens, and nothing more. under it. Reading always comes with a connection.
- Make changes in ABM, when the assistant asked for it: a tick, on to start with, with Log and change calls, book engineers and attach files. and a sentence saying the assistant asks you before each one. Clear the tick and the assistant can read but change nothing.
- Where what you look at goes: for an assistant on a website, the page says that what you look at through the assistant stays in your account with that assistant, and that you can disconnect it at any time from your account › Connected assistants.
Select Allow to connect it, or Don't allow to go back to the assistant without connecting it. Don't allow connects nothing, and you can start again from the assistant whenever you like.
What the assistant reads for you, such as call details, customer names and addresses, and contact names and numbers, goes to the company that runs your assistant and stays in your history there.
Which company and which person does my assistant connect as?
Your assistant connects as the person whose name is on the Connect an assistant page, at the company named beside it. The person is whoever is signed in to ABM Service in that browser at that moment, and the company is the one whose ABM Service address you added to the assistant.
Always check the name before you select Allow. On a shared computer, the browser may still be signed in as a colleague. If the page shows somebody else's name, select Don't allow, sign out of ABM Service in that browser from the menu, and start again from your assistant, which then brings you to the sign-in page first.
If a colleague signs in on the same browser in another tab while the Connect an assistant page is open, Allow does not connect the assistant as either of you. The page reloads instead and shows the person now signed in, so that nothing is ever allowed under a name the page did not show.
If you work for more than one company, each company is a separate connection. Add each company's own ABM Service address to your assistant, and connect each one from its own sign-in. The company on the Connect an assistant page is always the one the assistant will reach.
Only office staff can connect assistants. A customer signed in to the Customer portal cannot use the Connect an assistant page.
Why does ABM Service ask me to sign in again to connect an assistant?
Connecting an assistant needs a sign-in from the last ten minutes, even when you are already signed in to ABM Service in that browser. If your sign-in is older than that, the Connect an assistant page says Sign in again to connect followed by the assistant's name, with a Sign in again button instead of Allow.
The page explains why: Connecting an assistant needs a sign-in from the last ten minutes, because it keeps working long after you close this page. It is the same sign-in as always: your name, your password, and your code if you use one.
- Select Sign in again on the Connect an assistant page. The ABM Service sign-in page opens, even though you are signed in.
- Choose your name, type your ABM password and select Sign in, then type your authenticator code if your company asks for one.
- Check the Connect an assistant page, which opens again for the same request, and select Allow.
Signing in again does not sign you out anywhere and loses nothing that was saved; it replaces your sign-in in that browser with a fresh one.
This exists so that a connection, which goes on working from the assistant's own computers long after you close the page, is always a deliberate act by you, and never by whoever happens to be at your unlocked screen.
The sign-in again has to be finished within ten minutes of your assistant starting the connection. If it takes longer, the page says the request has expired, and you start again from the assistant.
What does "a program on this computer" mean on the Connect an assistant page?
When the Connect an assistant page names the assistant as a program on this computer instead of a website, the assistant is a program on your own PC rather than a website: the connection is handed back to this computer, not to a service on the internet. The page warns that the program runs on this computer, not on a website. Allow it only if you started it yourself just now: any program on this PC could ask in its name.
Select Allow only if you started connecting that program yourself, a moment ago. If you did not, or are not sure, select Don't allow: nothing is connected, and nothing is lost if it was genuine, because you can start again from the program.
For a website, such as chatgpt.com or claude.ai, the page shows that website's name instead and has no warning.
Once allowed, a program on this computer is listed under Connected assistants on your Your account page with 127.0.0.1 or localhost after its name instead of a website, and you disconnect it there like any other assistant.
Why did connecting my assistant not work?
When connecting does not work, ABM Service says why in a sentence, either on the Connect an assistant page or in the browser window your assistant opened.
- This connection request has expired. Start again from your assistant. More than ten minutes passed between the assistant starting the connection and your answer, or ABM Service was restarted in between. Start connecting again from the assistant.
- Connecting assistants is switched off for this company. The administrator can switch it on in ABM. Your company does not allow assistants. Only your system administrator can switch it on, from the AI assistants screen under Administration.
- Connecting assistants has just been switched off for this company. Your system administrator switched it off while the page was open. Nothing was connected.
- A sentence about the assistant itself, such as one starting The assistant's description, or one saying the assistant asked to come back to an address it does not list as its own, so ABM will not send you there. ABM Service could not confirm who the assistant is, so it refuses to connect it. Try again later; if it keeps happening, tell whoever looks after ABM Service, naming the assistant.
If the assistant says it is connected but cannot reach ABM Service later, check Connected assistants on your Your account page. A connection that is no longer listed, or whose used date is more than ninety days ago, has ended; connect it again from the assistant.
