How to See a Customer's Calls from the Map

Selecting a marker on the customer map opens that customer's sheet along the bottom of the map: who the customer is, how to get there, and the calls you are looking at for them, each with its engineer and when it is due. It works the same on the Calls screen and the Scheduler, and it is the quickest way from a place on the map to the call or the customer.

How do I see a customer's calls on the map?

Select the customer's marker on the customer map, on the Calls screen or the Scheduler. The customer's sheet opens along the bottom of the map, and the marker gets an extra ring to show it is the one selected.

  1. Open the map with the map button on the screen's toolbar, named Show the customers on a map.
  2. Select a marker. If customers are grouped into a numbered circle, select the circle first to zoom in.
  3. Read the sheet. Select the customer's name to open the customer, or a call number to open that call.

The sheet lists only the calls the screen is showing for that customer, read with the screen's dates and filters at the moment you open the sheet:

  • On the Calls screen, it lists that customer's calls in the Calls list's current window and filters, newest logged first, up to 50.
  • On the Scheduler, it lists that customer's visits on the board in the board's window and filters, soonest due first, up to 50. At a busy customer with more visits than that, use the board itself, or narrow the dates or filters, to find the later ones.

The calls in an open customer sheet on the map do not follow later changes on their own. If you change the screen's dates or filters, or select Refresh, while the sheet is open, close the sheet and select the marker again to see the customer's calls as they are now. The sheet only closes by itself when the customer drops off the map altogether. The one exception is the list of waiting calls on the Scheduler, which is read again when you change the To schedule column's own filters.

On the Scheduler while the To schedule column is open, the sheet also lists the customer's calls waiting to be scheduled; see How to Pick Up Waiting Calls from the Scheduler Map.

What does the customer sheet on the map show?

The top of the customer sheet on the map says who the customer is and whether there is anything to know before sending someone:

  • The customer's name. Select it to open the customer's screen; the arrow beside it opens the customer in a new tab.
  • The customer's code.
  • How many calls, for example "3 calls", counting the calls in the list or on the board.
  • nobody yet with a number, when some of those calls have not been given an engineer.
  • On hold, when the customer has Stop log calls or Service credit note hold switched on in its Defaults & holds.
  • A Close button (×).

Under that is one line with the customer's address, phone number and Eircode (the Irish postcode), where the customer has them, and Directions ↗.

Then comes the list of calls. While it loads it says Loading the calls…. If it cannot be read it says The calls could not be loaded. If the customer has no calls in the current window any more, it says No calls — the window may have moved.

What does each call line in the customer sheet show?

Each line in the customer sheet on the map is one call, or one engineer's visit on a call, and reads from left to right:

  • The call number. Select it to open the call.
  • The call type and the call status, each in its colour.
  • The engineer, with their photo or initials, or Nobody yet when no engineer has been given the call.
  • When it is due, as a short chip.

The due chip names the day and time in the plainest words it can: "Today 16:30", "Tomorrow 08:00", "Yesterday 09:00", or the date as day and month, for example "03/10 14:00", with the year added when it is not this year. Hover over the chip to see the full due date and time.

A chip for work due today stands out. A call still open that is past its due date turns to a warning and says by how many days, for example "· 2d late", or just "· late" when it was due earlier today; its tooltip says, for example, "— 2 days late". A call whose status is Closed, Matched or Cancelled is never shown as late, because a finished call with a date in the past is history, not an alarm. A call with no due date says not scheduled, with the tooltip "This call has no due date".

How do I get directions to a customer from the map?

Select Directions ↗ in the customer's sheet on the map. Google Maps opens in a new browser tab with the customer's location as the destination; choose or confirm the starting point there, and send the route to a phone if you want. In the ABM Service desktop app, it opens in your usual web browser.

Directions ↗ appears on every customer that has a marker, because a marker means ABM Service knows where the customer is. It goes to the position stored for the customer, which is where the pin was set rather than a fresh look-up of the address, so it takes an engineer to the right entrance if the pin was put there.

How do I close the customer sheet?

Select the Close button (×) at the top right of the customer sheet, or press Esc (Escape) while you are working in the map. Closing the sheet takes the extra ring off the marker.

Esc closes the panels over the map one at a time, newest first: first the customer sheet, then the Key, then the Which? list of customers without a location.

Selecting a different marker replaces the sheet with that customer's.

The sheet also closes by itself when the customer is no longer in the list or on the board, for example after a Refresh that finds the work done, or after a change of dates or filters that leaves the customer out. A sheet for a customer the screen is no longer showing would be out of date.

Why did the map move when I opened the customer sheet?

When you open a customer's sheet, the Key, the Which? list or another panel over the map, the map pans just far enough to keep the selected marker in the part of the map the panels leave uncovered. The sheet takes up the lower part of the map, and without this a marker near the bottom would be hidden by the very sheet about it.

The map only ever pans for this; it never zooms. It does not move when you go Back to the screen, when you select Refresh, or when you move the map yourself.

Does the sheet come back when I return from a call?

Yes. If you open a call or a customer from the sheet and then go Back, the map returns to the same place and zoom with the same customer's sheet open, as long as that customer is still in the list or on the board. If it is not, the map comes back with nothing selected.
