How to Let People Connect Their Own AI Assistant

The system administrator switches on AI assistants for the whole company on the AI assistants screen: choose On, check the address in The address assistants use, and select Check and switch on. Open the menu and, under Administration, select AI assistants. From then on, anybody who signs in to your company over the web may connect their own ChatGPT or Claude.

How do I switch on AI assistants for my company?

Open the menu, select AI assistants under Administration, choose On, and select Check and switch on once the address in the box is your company's public https address. Do it in a browser, signed in as user 1: the desktop app cannot switch assistants on.

  1. Open the menu with Menu (or Navigation menu on the Calls, Customers and Scheduler screens).
  2. Select AI assistants under Administration.
  3. Choose On under Connecting assistants.
  4. Read the What leaves the company note that appears under the address box, and be sure your company is content with it.
  5. Check the address in The address assistants use. It is filled in from the address your browser is on, and under it you see Filled in from the address you are on. It is checked before anything is saved.
  6. Select Check and switch on. While it checks you see Checking the address reaches this server….
  7. Check the line under the box. Checked: it reaches this server. People may connect now. means assistants are switched on.

Nothing is saved until the check passes. If the address is refused, the reason appears in the same place under the box, assistants stay off, and you can correct the address and select Check and switch on again. If you choose On and then leave the screen without checking the address, nothing has changed.

Once assistants are on, the button beside the box reads Check and save, a line under it gives the exact address people paste into their assistant, and the Calls assistants log start as choice and the Connected list appear.

Which address do I put in The address assistants use?

Put your company's public ABM Service address in The address assistants use on the AI assistants screen: the https address people open ABM Service on from outside the office, written on its own, with nothing after the name. It is usually the address already in the box, if you are using ABM Service from that address now.

The address must:

  • Start with https:// — assistants connect only over a secure connection.
  • Be reachable from the internet — ChatGPT and Claude reach ABM Service from their companies' own servers, so an address that works only inside your office network, or the server computer's own name for itself, cannot be used.
  • Be the address alone — no path, nothing after a question mark or a hash sign. A port number after the name is accepted.
  • Lead to this ABM Service server — the one you are signed in to.

When you select Check and switch on, ABM Service checks the address by asking it for an answer that only this server, running now, can give. A page that merely loads at the address is not enough: if the address leads to a different server, such as another company's ABM Service, the check fails. ABM Service saves the address in lower case and without a slash at the end, whatever you typed.

If you are using ABM Service inside the office on a different address, the box is filled in with that one. Type the public address over it before you check.

What do I tell people once AI assistants are switched on?

Tell people the address on the AI assistants screen that follows People paste, and that they add it to their own ChatGPT or Claude as a connector. That address is your company's address with /mcp on the end; give it exactly as the screen shows it, not the address of the ABM Service sign-in page.

What each person then does, on their side:

  1. Add the address as a connector in their assistant, following their assistant's own instructions.
  2. Sign in when the assistant sends them to ABM Service: the usual sign-in page, with their own name, password and authenticator code if they use one.
  3. Choose Allow on the Connect an assistant page, which names the assistant, the person and the company. Make changes in ABM is ticked to start with; they untick it to give the assistant read-only access.

People also find the address on their own Your account page, from Your account beside Sign out in the menu, while they have nothing connected. The same page lists their connected assistants and lets them disconnect their own. Your account is in the menu only when ABM Service is open in a browser.

Once assistants are on, and before you tell people, choose what status calls logged by an assistant should start at, so the office can find and review them. See How to Choose the Status of Calls an AI Assistant Logs.

Why does Check and switch on refuse the address?

The sentence under The address assistants use on the AI assistants screen says why the address was refused. Nothing is saved until an address passes, and assistants stay as they were.

  • '…' is not a web address. — what you typed is not an address at all. Type the whole address, starting with https://.
  • The address must start with https:// — assistants connect only over a secure connection. — the address starts with http:// or something else.
  • The address must be one assistants can reach from the internet, not this computer's own. — the address names the computer itself, such as localhost, rather than your public address.
  • Give the address alone, with nothing after the name (no path, no ?, no #). — remove everything after the name. A port number straight after the name may stay.
  • That address is too long. — check it was typed correctly.
  • An address followed by answered, but not as this server, a number in brackets and Check the address is this company's own. — something answered at the address, but not this ABM Service server, for example another company's site or a page in front of it.
  • An address followed by did not answer within ten seconds. — nothing replied in time.
  • An address followed by could not be reached from this server: and a reason — the server could not reach the address at all. When the reason says which is not a public internet address, the address leads to a computer inside your network as seen from the server, so assistants could not reach it either.

ABM Service checks the address from its own server, so the server needs to reach its own public address over the internet, and directly: a server that reaches the internet only through a proxy cannot pass the check. When the reason points at your network, ask whoever looks after your ABM Service server.

In the desktop app, Check and switch on cannot succeed: a correctly typed address is refused with Assistants connect to the web server, so switch this on from the web version of ABM, signed in as the administrator.

What happens if I change the address assistants use?

Changing The address assistants use on the AI assistants screen and selecting Check and save checks the new address in the same way, and, if it passes, ends every connection. Everybody who had connected an assistant has to connect it again, using the new address that follows People paste.

Every connection ends because each one was made for the old address, and would be refused at its next request anyway; ending them straight away means the Connected list and people's Your account pages show the truth at once. Tell people before you do it.

Selecting Check and save with the same address as before checks it again and changes nothing else: no connection ends. The address is compared as ABM Service saves it, in lower case and without a slash at the end, so typing the same address in capitals does not count as a change.

If the check fails, nothing changes at all: the old address stays in force and every connection carries on. The reason appears under the box, as it does when switching on.
