How to Disconnect Someone's AI Assistant or Switch Assistants Off
The Connected list on the AI assistants screen shows every assistant connected to your company's ABM Service, and the system administrator can end any of them: Disconnect on one line, Disconnect everybody under the list, or Off to switch assistants off altogether. Open the menu and, under Administration, select AI assistants.
How do I see who has connected an AI assistant?
The Connected section of the AI assistants screen lists every assistant connected right now, one line per person and assistant. Open it from the menu: under Administration, select AI assistants. The section is there while assistants are switched on.
The line under the Connected heading counts them, for example 3 connections, 2 people., and adds Disconnecting one stops it at once; the person can connect again. With nobody connected it says Nobody has connected an assistant yet. The newest connection is at the top.
Each line shows:
- The person — the ABM user the assistant acts as, by name. A person who is no longer in ABM's list of users is shown as User and their number instead; their assistant stops working within the hour.
- The assistant — its name as it gives it, such as ChatGPT or Claude.
- Where it comes from — the website the assistant works from, such as claude.ai, or an address of the person's own computer, such as 127.0.0.1, for a program that runs there.
- What it may do — reads and makes changes or reads only, as the person chose when they connected it.
- When — connected and the date, then used and the date it was last used.
A person who connects the same assistant a second time replaces their earlier connection, so each person has at most one line for each assistant. A person with both ChatGPT and Claude connected has two lines.
The same list, for their own assistants only, is on each person's Your account page, reached from Your account beside Sign out in the menu, where they can disconnect their own.
How do I disconnect one person's AI assistant?
Select Disconnect at the end of that person's line in the Connected list on the AI assistants screen, then Disconnect again to confirm. The assistant stops working at once.
- Open the AI assistants screen from the menu, under Administration.
- Find the person and the assistant in the Connected list.
- Select Disconnect at the end of the line. The line then shows It stops at once. and two buttons.
- Select Disconnect to end it, or Keep it to leave it connected.
The line disappears from the list, and from the person's own Your account page. Anything the assistant was doing for the person is refused from that moment, including an upload address it had already been given.
Disconnecting does not stop the person connecting again: while assistants are switched on, anybody who signs in to ABM may connect their own, and the person can simply connect the assistant once more from inside it. To stop one person using an assistant for good, there is no setting for one person: talk to them, or switch assistants Off for everybody.
Use Disconnect when somebody has lost a laptop or phone that was signed in to their assistant, has shared their assistant account, or asks you to end it for them.
How do I disconnect everybody but leave AI assistants switched on?
Select Disconnect everybody under the Connected list on the AI assistants screen, then Disconnect everybody again to confirm. Every connection ends at once, and the switch stays On, so people can connect again straight away.
- Open the AI assistants screen from the menu, under Administration.
- Select Disconnect everybody under the Connected list, where the screen explains Ends every connection now, and leaves the switch on.
- Check the question that replaces the button: Every connection ends now; the switch stays on.
- Select Disconnect everybody to end every connection, or Keep them to change nothing.
The Connected list then says Nobody has connected an assistant yet. The address, the status under Calls assistants log start as and the switch are left as they were.
Use Disconnect everybody when you want everybody to start again, for example after a security worry, while still letting people use assistants. Everybody who wants their assistant back connects it again, signing in as they did the first time.
How do I switch AI assistants off?
Choose Off under Connecting assistants on the AI assistants screen, then select Switch off to confirm. Switching off ends every connection and stops anybody connecting a new one.
- Open the AI assistants screen from the menu, under Administration.
- Choose Off under Connecting assistants. The screen asks Switching off disconnects everybody now. They can connect again if it is switched back on.
- Select Switch off to go ahead, or Keep it on to leave assistants switched on.
- Check the line that follows: Switched off. Every connection has ended.
Off stays selected only once you have confirmed: if you select Keep it on, On stays chosen and nothing changes.
After switching off, the address box, Calls assistants log start as and the Connected list disappear from the screen. The Your account entry disappears from your own menu straight away, and from other people's the next time they open ABM Service in their browser or reload, unless your company also uses authenticator apps, which keep it there. A person who tries to connect an assistant is told Connecting assistants is switched off for this company. The administrator can switch it on in ABM.
The address you checked and your choice of status are kept. If you switch assistants on again later, the address box is filled in with the same address, but nobody's assistant comes back by itself: each person connects theirs again.
You can switch assistants off from the ABM Service desktop app as well as from a browser.
What does the person see after their assistant is disconnected?
After an assistant is disconnected in ABM Service, whether by you on the AI assistants screen, by the person on their Your account page, or by switching assistants off, the next thing the assistant tries in ABM Service is refused as not signed in. How the assistant shows that to the person is up to ChatGPT, Claude or whichever assistant it is.
The person's Your account page no longer lists the assistant. While assistants are switched on, the person can connect again from inside their assistant, signing in to ABM Service and allowing it as before. If assistants are switched off, the page shows nothing about assistants at all, and connecting is refused until you switch them on again.
Nothing the assistant did before it was disconnected is undone: calls it logged, changes it made and files it attached stay in ABM Service under the person's name.
